About Me
For me, the journey toward educational equity isn't just a profession—it's deeply personal. It's a path forged by a lifetime of embracing diverse experiences and two decades embedded on the front lines of public, charter, and independent schools, particularly smaller institutions. Growing up as the daughter of a Black man who experienced the harsh realities of segregation in the Jim Crow South and a Japanese woman who bravely crossed cultural boundaries, I witnessed firsthand the complexities and the vital importance of creating inclusive and understanding communities. My early life, navigating diverse cultures, languages, and even religious traditions, coupled with my later experiences as a neurodivergent individual, provided an innate understanding of the multifaceted nature of equity.
This lived experience, combined with 20 years of dedicated service within PK-12 schools, has forged a unique and impactful approach to fostering equitable and culturally competent educational environments. Having served in virtually every corner of the educational ecosystem—from teacher, student advisor, advisor for clubs, student leadership, and affinity groups, to residential administrator, Community Engagement Director, Director of Parent and Alumni Relations, Institutional Head of DEIJ, Academic Dean, and Assistant Head of School for Equity—I've had the privilege of working at every level. This direct, on-the-ground experience gives me an unparalleled understanding of daily school realities.
My approach is rooted in a deep belief that every member of a school community deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and empowered. I bring a compassionate yet visionary leadership style, leveraging keen observation skills and active listening honed through years of being embedded directly within diverse school environments.
